Thanks a lot!

Yes, as long as it hasn’t been snowing, I would say it’s fairly safe. The danger spot is when it’s been under 0 degrees, and it heats up or snows, then it gets dangerous.

But the metro is great for getting around Copenhagen, to be honest.

Your blog is so helpful. I have been considering to travel in Copenhagen this Christmas holiday and spend the Christmas in inner city. Me as a tourist, is it still safe to ride a bike on a winter season to tour myself around the city?

Hey

Yes! The area around “Bella Center” is generally regarded as one of the dullest parts of Copenhagen. It’s a fairly new area that doesn’t have the charm that Copenhagen is known for… The hotel looks nice, but if you want to stay in a part of town where you can just walk from your hotel to “things to do” or even nice restaurants and cafés, then this is not the best place to stay, unfortunately.

I had been considering booking the ibis Styles Copenhagen Orestad for me and my child this December. It has a metro station right outside and so we’d travel in to the centre each day. Do you think we would be better trying to find somewhere more central?

Yes, that’s an excellent location for exploring Copenhagen and getting the train to Malmö. Check out Mr Ramen nearby if you want to try some of the best ramen in town 😀

Here’s a link to the hotel if anyone else is reading this and wants to see it: https://www.booking.com/hotel/dk/radisson-sas-royal.da.html

I need to travel to Malmo everyday so I’m wondering if thats a good spot to stay for a week.

Hi Kellie

Thanks a lot!

To be honest, in the winter, there’s only one place to stay in Copenhagen, and that is the city centre, for sure. The worst thing about the Danish winters is that it gets dark so early – at around 15:30 when it’s worst in December and January. So I’d highly recommend that you stay in the city centre as you’ll be close to all the touristy action AND it’s so easy to get to the other areas of the city with the metro. Because yes, it runs all day, every day, even in the winter 😉

I am coming from Australia in January – where are the best places to be during the middle of winter? I like experiencing the restaurants/food, bars, art, culture, live music type scene. Top of my list from your article are Indres By, Norrebro and Christianshavn. Is the Metro easy to get around the whole city even during winter? I’m not used to snow and freezing temperatures in Australia so any tips are welcome 🙂

Hi Judi

Thanks a lot for your comment. That sounds awesome!

For day trips outside of Copenhagen, I’d recommend visiting Helsingør/Elsinore (a nice smaller city with a famous castle), Malmö in Sweden and perhaps Roskilde (for the Viking museum). All 3 cities are reachable by train in under 1 hour.

I’m about to explore all of these places and film it for my Youtube channel so make sure to subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/@destinationwellknown

Have a fantastic trip to Denmark 🙌

We were thinking of coming to Denmark (from Los Angeles) over New Year’s and I was looking online for what to do once there when I found your blog. Now I will look for places we might travel outside of Copenhagen during the winter so that we are not a full 10 days in the city!
