Landstraße is also home to many local shops, cafes, and restaurants, where you can enjoy authentic Austrian gastropub culture.

Landstraße is worth comparing with Innere Stadt, particularly if you find a hotel close to the U3 or U4. Prices vary by dates and property, so a district label alone does not guarantee a cheaper stay.
Airport transfer update: major rail works affect the usual airport connections until the end of October 2027. CAT is operating a replacement bus to Wien Mitte; the S7 runs to St. Marx rather than Wien Mitte, and REX7 is diverted to Hauptbahnhof. Check the Vienna Tourist Board’s current transfer advice for your arrival date.

Areas & Places to Avoid in Vienna
When choosing where to stay in Vienna, I would focus on transport, street noise and the exact address instead of ruling out entire districts.
For a short sightseeing trip, a remote bargain can lose its appeal if you spend a large part of each day travelling. Compare the full door-to-door journey to the centre.
Favoriten is a large district. A hotel close to Hauptbahnhof can be useful for rail connections, while an address much farther south has a different journey into the centre. Check the nearest U-Bahn station.
Read recent reviews for the specific hotel and street, especially comments about noise, access after dark and the walk from public transport.
Ottakring is outside the main historic sightseeing area. It can suit a longer stay, but for a brief first visit I would compare its travel time with the four areas above before booking.
Karlsplatz is a useful transport hub for the historic centre and nearby cultural sights. As with any station-area hotel, check the precise entrance and room location when comparing options.

In three days, you can comfortably tour vital historic sites, such as the Hofburg Palace, Schönbrunn Palace, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, while also allowing time to wander through the charming streets, enjoy Viennese cafes, and perhaps catch a performance at the opera or a concert.
This period also allows you to explore a few of the city’s diverse neighborhoods, each offering a unique glimpse into the life of Vienna. While a more extended stay would enable a deeper exploration, three days in Vienna strikes a nice balance between sightseeing and soaking up the city’s atmosphere.
